Insurance and Valuation
Types of Insurance
Midway Moving and Storage automatically provides "valuation" not insurance. Valuation is the predetermined limit of liability as stated on the moving contract or bill of lading. This is automatically part of the contract with no extra cost. Valuation has no relationship to the actual value of your goods.
Below is a sample of Midway's Valuation form to be signed on the day of your move.

(_____) OPTION 1: Basic Value: If your shipment, or any part thereof, is damaged or lost, Midway’s maximum liability shall be thirty cents per pound per article. The weight of any damaged and/or lost article(s) may be derived from the American Movers Conference Table of Weights and Depreciation Guide, or use of the formula, seven pounds per cubic foot. There is no charge for this option.
(_____) OPTION 2: Declared Valuation: You estimate the value of your shipment, and declare that value on the bill of lading. If your shipment, or any part thereof, is damaged or lost, Midway’s maximum liability shall be the lowest of the repair cost, the original cost less depreciation to the date of loss, or the declared value. The depreciation of any damaged and/or lost articles may be derived from the American Movers Conference Table of Weights and Depreciation Guide. There is a charge of $.95 (cents) per $100 of declared value for this option. (A minimum of $ 10,000 of coverage applies).
CONDTIONS AND EXCLUSIONS TO ALL VALUATION OPTIONS
1. The terms and conditions of the Bill of Lading are incorporated herein.
2. Declared value: Option is not available for the following: Jewelry, watches, U.S. coins and currency, foreign coins and currency, stamps, collectibles, fine art not packed by Midway, glass, pottery and any boxed items not packed by Midway, antiques, documents, records, data, living and/or artificial plants, medications, negotiable and non negotiable instruments, precious metals and/or stones, and any shipment or part thereof with sentimental value and/or work product value. All such items are released for shipment at, and Midway’s liability for damage and/or loss is limited to, Basic Value, without regard to the value option selected.
3. On moves into storage, the same value option (level of coverage) you declared for your entry move must be purchased for your storage, and to your exit move from storage.
4. On all moves, shrink-wrapping furniture is necessary to protect the goods. There is a fee associated with shrink-wrapping, if you decide not to use shrink-wrap, Midway shall not be liable for any damage-related goods.
5. Due to the inherent nature of furniture constructed of particle board or fiberboard, they cannot usually be disassembled/reassembled multiple times. This is because the pins and /or screws that hold the furniture together loosen and will not hold the joints together properly. For the same reason, particle board or fiberboard furniture usually cannot be transported safely while assembled. If Midway is required to transport this furniture, you understand the risk involved and agree to release Midway from any liability concerning the normal transportation of the furniture.
WAREHOUSE HANDLING
The warehouse handling fee you paid was based on an estimate of weight on your shipment. Once the shipment is weighed and a weight ticket is obtained the difference of a credit or debit will be billed to your storage account directly. The ACTUAL CHARGE is calculated by taking the weight of the shipment, divided by 100, times $ 7.50 (Example: 5,000 lbs/100= 50 x $ 7.50=$375). This would be the actual amount charged. A 2,000 pound minimum applies to all shipments. The actual warehouse handling fee will be charged twice (when entering an again upon exiting storage).

Check other Insurance Options
Speak with your home insurance agent to see if your household goods are covered during the move. Most homeowner insurance policies cover approximately 10 percent of the value of your personal property. Remember to also check the deductible and take this into consideration when determining your coverage. It may also be beneficial to ask your insurance agent about Goods In Transit insurance.
