Midway Moving and Storage, Inc. is the number-one rated residential and commercial relocation and storage company in Chicagoland. 1986  

Jerry I. Siegel, a senior at Illinois State University, works briefly as a mover at a local company. Repeatedly refused a sales position, he offers to work for free in exchange for a chance to learn the business. By the time he graduates, Siegel is the company’s top salesman.


1987

With one truck and two employees, Siegel starts his own moving company, Midway Moving and Storage, in his parents’ basement in Skokie, Illinois.  Two years later, the company moves to a larger facility – the back of Siegel’s parents’ restaurant at Sheridan and Montrose in Chicago.


1992

Trucks: 12    Employees: 60   Annual Moves:  1,500
Midway purchases a facility on Montrose Avenue in Chicago which houses 2,500 square feet of non-accessible storage. 


1995 

Trucks:  30   Employees: 110 Annual Moves: 6,500
Midway purchases a 100,000 square-foot facility on West Chicago Avenue and begins a three-year sponsorship of the Chicago Cubs.  


1997 

Trucks:  50  Employees: 140 Annual Moves: 8,250
The Illinois Commerce Commission recognizes Midway Moving and Storage as the largest residential moving company in Illinois.

Midway expands its service capabilities by offering interstate and worldwide relocation services.

Midway begins a partnership with the City of Chicago by becoming the Official Movers of the internationally acclaimed Summer Public Art Program, “Chicago Cows on Parade.” After the program, the cow sculptures are auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting local charities.  Midway delivers cows to auction winners, including Oprah Winfrey.

Midway becomes a major supporter of the Glass Slipper Project, an organization that provides free gowns for low-income high school girls so they can attend their senior proms.  The company continues to provide transport, set-up and storage services for the Project.

Based on a shared commitment to the community, Midway becomes the Official Mover of the Chicago Bulls by entering into a five-year sponsorship, the first in franchise history. 

Midway is selected by the Chicago Housing Authority to help in the unprecedented five-year relocation plan for the residents of Cabrini Green.

Midway Moving and Storage reaches 10,000 annual moves and is recognized by National Van Lines as the agent with the second highest gross sales in the country.

In need of a larger facility, Midway begins to explore opportunities outside of the city.  Mayor Richard M. Daley and Alderman Ed H. Smith, vowing to keep Midway and its job opportunities in the city, work together to support the company’s development of a new storage and training facility in the Alderman’s 28th Ward.

Midway begins its tradition of hosting the Annual Holiday Initiative Dinner Party, which provides dinner, entertainment and gifts for 500 children of Chicago Housing Authority residents. The event gives an opportunity for less fortunate kids to get the true sense of the holiday.

Midway’s truck fleet is equipped with Guidance Positioning System (GPS) to track locations and keep detailed activity records.

Midway renews its partnership with the Chicago Summer Public Art Program, becoming the Official Mover of “Suite Home Chicago.”

National Van Lines awards Midway a First Place Residential Sales Award.

Continually investing in customer service, Midway launches a full-service Web site, complete with information about local, long distance and commercial moves, packing and storage services, license and insurance information, moving tips and free online estimates.

Midway Moving and Storage purchases land in Chicago’s Northwest Industrial Corridor to build a new corporate headquarters and warehouse facility.

Backed by Mayor Daley and Alderman Ed Smith, the Chicago City Council unanimously approves funding for a Mover Training Facility, to be located adjacent to Midway headquarters.  The Training Facility will teach basic moving skills and create dozens of jobs, with its graduates finding employment both at Midway and other area moving companies. 

Midway’s record of excellence wins multiple state and government contracts, including contracts with Chicago Public Schools to relocate schools, the Board of Elections to transport voting machines and the Chicago Housing Authority to relocate residents.

In December, Midway Moving and Storage breaks ground on its new facility at 4100 W. Ferdinand in Chicago’s Northwest Industrial Corridor.  The seven-acre site will house more than 254,000 square feet of storage capacity.

Midway’s Web site undergoes an extensive update, resulting in a nearly 50 percent increase in hits every month over the previous year.

Midway begins participating in Mayor Daley’s Kidstart Program, which provides employment to low income students.  The company creates a one-year, entry-level training position, Administrative Scheduling, which teaches moving industry policies and procedures and basic office skills, including customer service.  Since its inception, two Kidstart employees have parlayed the skills they learned at Midway into rewarding careers.

Midway Moving and Storage celebrates the grand opening of its new corporate headquarters and state-of-the-art storage warehouse, outfitted with smoke detectors, sprinklers, security cameras and a barcode system to accurately and efficiently track inventory.

Midway celebrates its 5th year as a sponsor of the Glass Slipper Project,
which provides free gowns for low-income high school
girls so they can attend their senior proms.

Midway Moving and Storage creates and implements a new proprietary database system that allows all Midway departments to share real-time information, tracking how long the truck was used, the scheduled pick-up time, the actual arrival and departure times, and the items that were moved.

Increased warehouse space allows Midway to introduce Mobile Storage Unit service, a more convenient and low-cost alternative to traditional public storage.  Midway brings a large crate to the site, where it is loaded by Midway movers or the customers themselves and then stored at Midway’s facility until the customer requires it.

President and CEO Jerry I. Seigel is named Honorary Mayor by the Little City Foundation. 

Windows of Opportunity and Midway Moving & Storage Co. host their 6th annual Holiday Party for hundreds of children who reside in the Chicago Housing Authority family developments throughout the city.  Featured guests include Chicago Bulls’ forward Luol Deng and Benny the Bull.  Midway also celebrates its 12th year of working with CHA and Windows.

Midway Moving and Storage moves more than 2,000 voting machines from the Chicago Board of Elections to hundreds of polling places throughout the city for the Aldermanic elections.

Midway is proud to serve as the Literary Presenting Sponsor of Little City’s first Used Book Sale, which sells more than 300,000 used books over the course of 10 days.  This event is a major fundraiser for Little City, which provides resources and support for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Midway is proud to strengthen its partnership with Little City and help produce this fantastic event.

Midway becomes the Official Mover of the Chris Duhon Basketball Camp. Chris Duhon, a guard for the Chicago Bulls, appears with his endorsement on Midway’s largest moving trucks.

Midway sponsors the first-ever Windows of Opportunity "Back to School Bash", a day-long festival designed to enthuse children who live in CHA units about going back to school.  Approximately 500 children enjoyed games with Chris Duhon and performances by the Jesse White Tumblers.

Midway launches Midway Document Destruction with a new, state-of-the-art shredding facility at its West Side headquarters.  The new facility features video surveillance and temperature control, security, and proprietary barcode tracking systems, as well as Security Thread, a proprietary shredding method that surpasses current industry standards.

Midway Document Destruction announces key partnerships with the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities and with Little City Foundation in an effort to create jobs for people with disabilities. 

Midway Moving becomes the Official Mover of Fashion Focus Chicago, a weeklong celebration of Chicago’s thriving fashion industry.

Midway Moving signs a five-year endorsement agreement with Chicago Bulls’ guard Ben Gordon, a first-round draft pick for the Bulls in 2004 who averaged 18.6 points per game in the 2007-08 season and was ranked third in the NBA for free throws.  Ben Gordon’s image and endorsement appeared in Midway’s advertising campaigns and on several trucks in Midway’s 200-vehicle fleet. 

Midway Document Destruction launches Midway Mentors in partnership with Waukegan Student Connections.  The Midway Mentors curriculum is designed to teach students sales and marketing skills and give them work experience in a real-world environment.

Midway participates in the Waukegan American Independence Parade and the Deerfield Lions Club Parade, as well as Chicago’s Disability Day Parade.  Midway’s interactive float, which features basketball hoops and Midway “Cows on Parade”, is a crowd favorite. 

Midway signs a five-year endorsement agreement with Chicago Bulls’ forward Tyrus Thomas, who ranked #4 in the NBA in blocks and was named the Bulls Community Player of the Year this past April in recognition of his numerous philanthropic efforts. 

Midway renews its commitment to the arts in Chicago by once again becoming the Official Mover of Fashion Focus Chicago. 

Midway and the Bulls break their own record, collecting 20,034 pounds pounds of food during their annual Holiday Food Drive

Midway Moving and Tyrus Thomas sponsor Thomas’ Holiday Home Makeover, surprising a needy family with an early Christmas.  Tyrus and several Midway movers surprised a single mom and her three children with a totally made-over living room and dining room as well as a Christmas tree fully stocked with gifts for the children.  Midway was proud to work with Tyrus Thomas and the Bulls to bring holiday cheer to this family and continue our mission to help Chicagoans in need.

Midway marks its 10th year as a major supporter of the Glass Slipper Project.  To date, Midway has helped the Glass Slipper Project provide prom gowns for 16,000 underprivileged high-school girls.

Midway continues its sponsorship of the Little City Used Book Sale, which raises more than $200,000 dollars the children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities it serves throughout the Chicago region.

Midway Moving is featured on WGN’s HomesPlus.  Host Rochelle Vayo-Adkinson takes a behind-the-scenes look at Midway’s Mover Training Center and also works with interior decorator Julea Joseph to utilize Midway’s Mobile Storage Units for home staging.  HomesPlus features Midway because we are the only moving company that trains our own employees, ensuring the highest level of service for our customers.

Midway is selected once again to move more than 2,000 voting machines from the Chicago Board of Elections to hundreds of polling places throughout the city for the primary elections.

Midway Document Destructions holds its first Shred-a-thon, a community event that provides free shredding services area residents.

Midway Moving and Storage, the Windows of Opportunity organization and the Chicago Housing Authority team up with platinum-selling rapper Snoop Dogg to host the School is Cool Back-to-School event for students living in CHA properties. The event, which Midway has sponsored for the last four years, promotes education and sports as an alternative to youth violence.

Midway sponsors the Chicago Bulls Holiday Food Drive for the Greater Chicago Food Depository.  The Food Drive raises more than 10,000 pounds of food for Chicago families in need.

Recognizing Midway’s exceptional quality of service, the Chicago Board of Elections chooses Midway once again to move more than 2,000 voting machines to hundreds of polling places throughout the city. 

Midway and the Deerfield Parent Network sponsor a public speaking engagement for parents with bullying expert Barbara Coloroso.

Midway Document Destructions continues to hold Shred-a-thons in partnership with aldermanic wards throughout Chicago.  To date, Midway has shredded thousands of pounds of documents for free for Chicagoans. 

Furthering our mission to give back to the community, Midway participates in numerous back-to-school celebrations in various neighborhoods throughout Chicago.  Midway encourage children to stay fit and stay smart this school year with a series of moving-themed competitions that emphasize fitness as well as important values such as teamwork and communication. Midway also provides prizes and school supplies for students.

Midway Moving and Storage and the Chicago Bulls announce a new three-year agreement that designates Midway the Official Mover of the Chicago Bulls. As part of its partnership with the Bulls, Midway will continue to sponsor the team’s Holiday Food Drive with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, as well as Little City Night at the United Center.  Midway will also utilize its relationship to celebrate the achievements of Chicago Public Schools students by honoring them on the court of the United Center before games.  In years past, Midway and the Bulls have honored Chicago Science Fair winners and students with perfect attendance and other academic accomplishments.

Midway sponsors Little City’s Annual Dinner Gala, honoring Mayor Richard M. Daley, at the Shedd Aquarium.   Little CityFoundation helps to create hope, change lives and challenge all limits for children and adults with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Midway is committed to providing opportunities for people with disabilities and is proud to have been a long-time supporter of Little City.
